Dave Bartley

Dave Bartley plays guitar, mandolin, and several other stringed instruments. He has played many styles of music over the years and continues to range over several genres. Dave composes dance tunes, many of which may be found in the KGB Tune Dossier and KGB Tune Dossier, Volume 2. He also teaches guitar, mandolin, and cittern/bouzouki, and performs as a classical guitar soloist or can put together a band for weddings or other parties. Dave plays in these bands, among others:

• KGB - One of the seminal avant garde contradance bands, since 1993, with Julie King and Claude Ginsburg.
• Bag o'Tricks and Tricky Brits - A contradance and English Country Dance band with Anita Anderson, Betsy Cooper and Sande Gillette.
• Ruby Slippers and Sky Blue - Romantic dance music from the Swing Era.
• Rouge - French cafe and cabaret music featuring chanteuse Janet Rayor.
• Pangéo (part time) - Regional traditional music of Greece featuring Christos Govetas and Ruth Hunter.
• Pasatempo - Rebetika, the "Greek blues," dating from the 1920's, 30's, and 40's.
• Gina Salá Ensemble - Songs from a lot of everywhere (she sings in 23 languages, and could be adding another one right now)
• Valse Café Orchestra - Viennese waltzes and a variety of other couple dance music.

KGB has three recordings available: Contraintelligence, Volga Notions and In from the Cold.

Tricky Brits/Bag o'Tricks have an eponymous recording on CD.

Pasatempo has an eponymous recording on CD.

 

Dave also has played on recordings by Shira Kammen, Rouge, Eric Tingstad, and Cathie Whitesides, among others.
